    Description

    Wood Planer from Mockhorn Island Virginia Boat Builder John Hanson Downes Eastern Shore of Virginia.
    Born in 1892, John Hanson Downes was a farmer, but his true calling was boat building. Credited with some of the finest boats made on the Eastern Shore, he and his son Robert were true boat craftsmen of the lower Eastern Shore
    The Sail Boat races were a huge event off Mockhorn Island into the 1930s.
    On one side you can see where there was a tag attached. The tag was marked with John Hanson Downes, but it has fallen off over the years. Blade is missing.
