Description
A very clean example of a Millers Falls No. 9 type 4, in excellent original condition. Produced between 1953 and 1966 at the Millers Falls Factory in Greenfield Massachusetts. Advertisement (shown in last photo but not included) is from the 1938 Miller’s Falls Tools catalogue and for reference only.
The lever cap is the patented, three-point bearing design that Millers Falls planes are known for. The chrome plating has developed a nice patina and delivers "chatter-free performance as advertised. The chip breaker and blade are rust free and the blade has been sharpened and honed to a razors edge. The cast iron body is clean, with no rust or cracks. Original Japanning is 99% intact. The frog is near perfect and the brass adjustment knob is the solid (non-recessed) variety. The goncalo hardwood handle and tote have the factory original red-orange varnish; except for a few small dings, both components are in excellent condition with no signs of cracks or breaks. The "Millers Falls Tools" tote label is aftermarket, but I left it on because it just looks cool.
Vintage Millers Falls hand planes in this condition are getting tougher to find. This one would make a perfect user or collector.
