    Description

This is a very early Stanley # 113 adjustable circular plane, type 1. (1877 - 1878 only ) The pane has the following features.
1- Main adjustment knob has the full 'Maze' pattern, STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO.,             and PATENTED. SEPT.25 1877 cast in it.
2- Body has the graceful deep dipping curve on the thin and rounded sidewalls, that               as well as the gears, fits inside of the footprint of the sole plate.
3- Cap screw has the small lugs, 'pie crust' edges, and 'Maze' pattern. ( 3.20.77 )
4- Dovetail keyway sticks out of the body casting on both sides, with a cutout on the
gear side to allow clearance for maximum adjustment of the sole curvature.
5- Escutcheon plates ( hinges ) have the 'shield' pattern, and are riveted to the sole.
6- Frog has the 2 hole iron depth adjustment arrangement.
7- Side gears  are inside the sole plate and have no patent date. ( Added 6.17.79 )
8- The handle is located by 2 grooves, and attached to a lug by 1 screw.
9- Iron has the special trademark ( tm113 1876 ) with patent dates unique to these                 planes. Slot in the iron for the cap screw is the narrow 5/16" ( 8mm ) Bailey's 7/16.
10- Side-wheel depth adjustment is solid, black Japanned, and has the fine knurling.
Plane is in extremely fine condition, showing no use or ware. Body, frog, and handle have been refinished. Exposed metal parts lightly cleaned. Iron sharpened and stropped to a mirror finish. This is a stunning example of a Stanley # 113 plane that's nearing it's 150 year birthday !!    Jim   S
