NICE Antique 'IRISH Pattern' MAHOGANY Infilled Bronze CHARIOT Smooth Plane

Here we have a
NICE Antique
,
'IRISH Pattern'
,
MAHOGANY Infilled Bronze
/ Brass
'Low Angle' CHARIOT Smooth Plane.
There is no maker's name on the plane but the
1-3/4” wide, tapered
cutting iron is marked
J. HERRING
&
SONS, ENGLAND
.
The
Bronze
body sides, sole and mouth are in Very Good
used
condition with a few minor nicks and dings.
There is a tiny fleabite in the corner of the mouth.
The infill and wedge appear to be Mahogany.
There are No cracks in the infill
but there are a couple minor nicks from use.
The wedge has
a nice carved front edge and only
minor bruising
on the top
from mallet taps. The full length
1-3/4” wide
cutt
ing iron
is sharp and mates nicely with the front of the mouth.
There is a
faint
owner stamp on the
bridge. The sole measures approx. 7-3/4"L x 2-1/4"W.
This is a nice heavy plane at 3 lb
. 4 oz.
. No cracks, breaks or repairs.
