    Description

    Here we have a
BIG ! Antique JOHN BELL, PHILA. PA. Skew Blade PANEL RAISING PLANE
.  John Bell was a plane maker in Philadelphia. PA from 1829-1851.  The maker

s name is on the toe: JOHN BELL  AGT PHILAD.  This maker mark has a
    '2 Star rarity'
as listed by "The Makers of American Wooden Planes".   This BIG plane is in very good 'used' condition !!  It has a few tight hairline age-related cracks (see pics)  It has an adjustable wooden depth stop along the right side.  No cracks or breaks in the tote. The large adjustable moving fence works as it should. The stop and the fence have brass guides and the heavy screws hold everything nice and tight.  The wedge for the cutting iron is original and is stamped 'VII' which matches the mark on the wood 'seat' for the cutting iron.  The cutting iron is sharp but should be checked if you plan to use this plane. The cutting iron was made by JAMES CAM, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND (James Cam, was a prolific Sheffield, England edge tool manufacturer who made blades for planes, chisels, axes, etc. from approx.1828 – 1890).  This is a 'BIG & HEAVY' plane measuring approx. 14"L x 5-1/4"W and weighs 7 lb. 12 oz. (unpacked!).  I offer FREE PICKUP !!
Note: Shipping cost quote is for PA to CA.  If you live closer to me in PA shipping should be less.
