    Description

    Here we have an
Antique Rosewood 'Low Angle' Infilled BRASS Miter Smooth Plane 7-3/8"L X 2-3/8"W, with WARD & PAYNE Iron.
There is no maker's name on the plane but the cutting iron is marked WARD &PAYNE.  David Ward & Henry Payne operated their Sheffield, England 'Ward Works' edge tool manufacturing site from approx. 1843-1911. They manufactured many types of 'edge' tools such as chisels, plane irons, saws, etc. This cutting iron is stamped by the makers and has their "Anvil & Hammers" logo which includes both their initials: W  P. The Brass body sides, sole and mouth are in VERY Good condition with a few minor nicks and dings on the Brass surfaces. The infill and wedge appears to be Rosewood, but could be Mahogany. The infill supporting the cutting iron extends through the rear of the body and there is a small steel impact button on the heel.  The front infill knob in very good 'used' condition.  There are No cracks in the infill.  The wedge has minor bruising from mallet taps. The plane is fitted with a very good 2" wide cutting iron by Ward & Payne (see above). The cutter is sharp and mates very nicely with the front of the mouth for a 'tight mouth'.  There are is an owner stamp on the front knob and the wedge. This is a nice heavy plane at 3-1/2 lbs. No cracks, breaks or repairs.
