Here we have anAntique JOHN BELL, PHILA. Screw Arm Sash Fillister Rebate Plow Plane with Skewed Iron.
John Bell was a planemaker in Philadelphia, PA from 1829 - 1851. The toe of the plane has the maker's mark and the heel is stamped '2'. This beech plane is in very good overall condition with no cracks or breaks to the body and fence. There is minor wear from use such as nicks and shallow abrasions (see pics). The screw arm threads are very, very good with only a couple of minor chips. No cracks in the 4 nuts. The body has a nice working brass and steel depth stop. The plane comes equipped with a 1" Wide, skewed cutting iron made by Hildick (Aaron Hildick was an edge tool maker in Sheffield, England from 1846-1950) The cutting iron wedge has some minor bruising. The plane is approx. 9"L, and the fence is approx. 10" L. The arms are approx. 10" long. There are no owner marks.
