Colton was in business from 1837 to 1860 at various addresses
    around Philadelphia, PA, USA.
The toe of the plane has the 'C' maker's stamp: J. COLTON  247 (SOUTH 2ND ST) PHILA  WARRANTED.  The "SOUTH 2ND ST" portion is obliterated from wear.  This stamp has been designated a '2 Stars' rarity by 'Makers of American Wooden Planes'.
The heel is marked '1/2' and '1 1/2'.
The plane body is in EXCELLENT, 'little used' condition with occasional
    minor
nicks. The 'spring lines' are still present on the toe.  The sole and both mouths are also in Excellent condition with two strips of dark
    Walnut
    boxing
on the edges of the profile.
The cutting wedges have some very minor bruising and NO cracks
    .
The cutting irons are in very good clean condition and will cut a 1-1/2" wide profile.  Both iron were made by W. Butcher, Sheffield, England. Plane is approx. 9-1/2" L x 2-1/2" W.  There are NO owner marks.  There are no cracks, breaks or repairs.
    These 'double iron'
complex planes are VERY hard to fine, especially in EXCELLENT condition
    !!
