    Description

    Here we have a
    RARE !! Antique EDWIN HAHN, Wilkes-Barre, PA, No. 4C Corrugated Smooth Plane.
    Edwin Hahn was listed
    as a carpenter in the Wilkes Barre, PA Business
    Directory in the early 1900's, Hahn resided
    in the South Wilkes Barre area very close
    to Jacob Siegley
    , a noted plane maker
    .  Stanley bought out Siegley's combination plane business in1905.  Edwin Hahn subsequently bought out
    the remaining bench and block plane stock, jigs and patterns in 1908 and began to
    manufacture his own
    line of bench planes. Many of the planes. Edwin
    Hahn is
    listed as a plane
    maker in the 1908 Directory and continued to make planes until 1919.
    The
    plane’s
    japanning is at approx. 80-85%. The Tote and Knob were reportedly made of either Birch or Maple
    and
    are in very good condition. No cracks or breaks in these handles. The tote has the nice checkered side panels.  The handles do have minor scratches and nicks from use. The cutter adjusting knob is the small brass version.  The body, sole and mouth are in good clean condition with a few minor corrosion marks, nicks and scratches here and there.
    Hahn planes are known to be very roughly casted as compared to other manufacturers (
    as reported by researchers of the Hahn brand)
    . If you look inside the toe area (see pic) the casting has a rough appearance.
    The tiny holes on some areas of the body sides and the top of the rails appear to be casting imperfections and not pitting. If you already own some Hahn planes you are familiar with this situation. T
    he body is marked 'No. 4' at the toe.  Hahn planes were designed to have the lever cap also serve as the chip-breaker iron. The brass tightening knob has a small nick in the bottom.  The cutting iron is faintly marked by the maker.  The full

    length blade is sharp but should be touched up before use. There are 4 small file marks on the top edge of the left rear rail which are owner ID marks. No cracks, breaks or repairs.
    This would make a great addition to your collection, or put it to use !!
