  • Condition: The Plane is in good condition for the era, has about 75% of the original black japanning intact, and some spots where it has rubbed and flaked off. The wood handles are solid with the original finish. As with the vintage of the plane, there is some normal wear, a few dents and dings, a few surface scratches, and some discoloration, all as noted from the photos.

    The plane was obtained from an estate sale, shows to have been well cared for, not sure of era.
    This is a vintage 9” wood plane, not sure of manufacturer or era, there’s no manufacturer ID markings on base or iron. With the lateral lever style having the butterfly wing style (folded) end, this plane could be a Stanley Defiance or made by the Sargent Tool Co. not really sure.
    As for dating I believe with the short from knob, the 1” blade adjuster nut, and the brass tote and knob nuts. This plane is probably from the 1920’s, since most wood plane manufacturers change the blade adjustor nut from the 1” dim. to 1 1/4” dim. in the early 1920’s….
    The plane is embossed behind the frog on the base

    The lateral blade lever adjustment handle has no ID markings. The frog on the bottom is embossed

    The depth adjuster knob I believe is brass and is approx. 1" diameter.
    The plane is 9" long and has a 2 1/8" wide base, and is approx. 5 1/2" high. The front knob and rear tote is wood.
    The blade is stamped

    , and is 1 3/4" wide and 6 1/8” long.
    The Plane is in good condition for the era
