Wood tools a century or more old, may have dents, dings, scratches, age/shrinkage checks, and warpage. Anything significant will be noted and photographed.
The plane has been lightly cleaned, by hand, using a Scotch-Brite pad and B.L.O.
There is an old wood screw in the side of the body behind the tote.
The toe is marked "
A. G. HICKS & Co
" .
A. G. HICKS is listed as a planemaker in Cleveland, Ohio from 1857 to 1865.
The flat tipped screws for the fence are typical for the manufacture dates and may be original?
The heel is unmarked.
The thick, tapered, laminated iron is unmarked. It is in excellent condition.
The plane cuts an under-size 3/8" tongue. It looks like about .340, to me.
The plane is approximately 13-3/4" long.
IMHO,
other than the wood screw, the plane is in quite nice condition, including the mouth/throat/cheeks, and the wedge.
The iron will need to be sharpened, and the sole may need truing if this plane is to be used.
The wedge and iron may be removed for shipping.
