  • Condition: The plane is in good condition for the era---the blade appears never sharpened----I touch it up a little…. The wood is solid and has near 100% of original finish……The plane and parts has about 70 –80% of original japanning intact, some chips places. As with the vintage of the plane there are a few dings, a few surface scratches, some minor pitting spots and some discoloration, some areas has very small white paint specs-----may easily come off---- I didn't try was concerned about finish,.......all noted from the photos.

    A clean, lightly used Stanley Bedrock wood plane with corrugated bottom made for the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company.

    The plane was recently obtained from a sale, shows well cared for, exact age is unknown.
    The plane has been Completely Dismantled, and all parts lightly cleaned, oiled and carefully re-assembled, the wood is solid, and the finish is bright and original.
    I believe this is a early wood plane, sold thru the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company out of St. Louis, I believe the plane was the Bedrock series made by Stanley Tool Company, for the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company under the KEEN KUTTER SERIES.
    This plane is the E.C. Simmons K5 1/2C model, appears as the Stanley model 605 1/2C type 4 Bedrock series made from 1908 to 1910 with the corrugated bottom.
    The plane is embossed on the front base
    K5 1/2.
    The lever cap, and the lateral adjusting lever have no ID markings.
    The iron / blade is stamped
    with the E C. Simmons Hardware Company wedge logo trade mark.
    The plane is 15” long, 5 1/2” tall and 2 3/4” wide, the blade is 2 1/4” wide and a full 7 15/16”
    The plane has the 1” diameter brass adjustment knob, and barrel brass nuts on knob and tote.
    The plane is in good condition for the era---the blade appears never sharpened----I touch it up a little….
