Fairleigh Dickinson shelter-in-place lifted after search for possibly armed person

UPDATE: In a 2:52 a.m. message, the university lifted the shelter-in-place. “Police activity has concluded. ALL CLEAR!!” the message, posted on X, read. The school did not immediately detail any additional information about the incident.

A shelter in place was in effect at Fairleigh Dickinson’s Florham Campus in Madison late Wednesday night as police were searching for a person possibly armed with a gun.
“Stay inside the building away from windows and doors,” an alert posted on the university’s social media sites stated. “If outside, find shelter immediately.”
Those on campus were told to remain in place until an all-clear message was sent via the FDU Alert System.
Police were in the area of the university looking for a person “who may be in possession of a gun,” an 11:30 p.m. alert from the school stated.
No other information was released by the university.
The Florham and Metropolitan campuses will both operate remotely Thursday, school officials said shortly after midnight. Essential personnel were expected to remain on campus, and all Florham on-campus activities were cancelled.
